I can definitely understand people thinking she's perfect. It's a bit weird when they obsess over my wife like that, I get worried I'm going to have to jump in and do something about it (which would be time far better spent cuddling Rose... NOT THAT I HAD A ONE TRACK MIND) but I suppose it's no worse than all the strange people who want to kiss me.

I can not *wait* until Moffat does something to really piss off the fans. I'm just going to sit back and laugh and laugh and laugh. People really have absolutely no idea what they are talking about when it comes to what RTD does, on even a basic level. Or, like, what has to happen in order to run a TV franchise effectively. Or that under RTD all the Who shows have just gotten more and more and more popular and well-regarded. Oh yes, the man's a hack, clearly.

I'm always amused by online fandom's mindset that they/we comprise *all* of a show's fan base. All you have to do is look at online numbers and compare it to numbers in the ratings.

This is why I decided not to read any of the forums about Doctor Who. And really, I don't see how Rose is a Mary Sue. If she is, then it seems to me that Martha and Donna would be too. Why aren't they/why is she? If the Doctor falling in love with her is the only reason, I fail to see how that's a reason. People fall in love. It happens. (And... usually it's a good thing...?)

Because generally people only throw out "MARY SUE!" when they hate a character. As in, they hate the character, therefore she is a Mary Sue. It's much easier (and, well, lazy) to dismiss a character that way.

This is so true. I can't tell you how many times I've dared to wander into the comments of a post or article that mentions RTD (not Rose) that I've found someone still bringing up the "fact" that RTD loves Rose The Bestest and that's why he's so meeeeeeeean to all the other characters. Also how apparently Rose is a black hole around which all storylines are warped. It's the weirdest thing, really. They are totally giving her far more credit than I, a Rose fan *shock, horror!* do.

Did you know that? RTD never had a plan. Nope. Because the BBC do not plan these v.v. important shows. So, when he told Billie he'd see her in a couple years, he must have been lying. There was no story arc. I bet he was totally writing the scripts from week to week and making sh*t up and forcing the actors to ad-lib.

Though that would explain LotTL.

Thursday at Comicon , while engaged in conversation with two total strangers about both Doctor Who and Torchwood, I found myself saying "Rose did it" to explain to one of them why Jack Can't Die. And I didn't even realize how that sounded until I came home and read this.

Also, my son told me he'd buy me an autographed picture of Colin Baker if I promised to hang it on my wall at work. So I am now the proud possessor of a tasteful montage of the sixth Doctor (blue coat), the Tardis (interior and exterior shots), and a cyberrman. Mr. Baker seemed very nice, and was (thankfully) fully clothed.
