RTD doesn't give a good goddamn what the fans think, or what people are saying on the internet (though I *do* think he'd get a kick out of the socks). He doesn't care who people love, only that they serve the story he's ready to tell (and that they signed on for another series, which, you know, CT DID NOT).

I agree. I really wanted to like Tosh--I did, even, in spite of how poorly she was written. She had such potential, and the writers completely squandered it.
And I think with CoE, RTD showed what he wanted Torchwood to be
Oh, definitely. This was RTD coming in and saying "This is what I meant all along, people." And that wouldn't work with the characters that were already on the show. Maybe Owen, but he was, you know, undead and then redeaded.
