i THINNNNK (and don't quote me on this, Rose m'dear) that he's actually trying to change the subject to something a bit more...shall we say...neutral, while doing so in his usual subtle though not-so-subtle verbose way. ;c ) Or better yet, he's affronting a distraction to get you to forget about anything he might have said wrongly.

Is it working though?

Distractions can be good. :D Especially if they are the Doctor's distractions. ;) I'm sure he IS actually sorry tho about the whole questioning tastes thing. He IS an alien after all. ;) And, besides, the only person he's ever really FANCIED is YOU, so take comfort in that obviousity as well. :)
