What is up with the rising trend of people posting meta on AO3? I don't want to have to start wading through non-fic there! (Especially a meta on why Benedict Cumberbatch is hot. GOOD FREEKIN LAWD.)

I think this is currently under debate by the site admins? (i.e. It may get deleted, or it may have a category of its own.)

I know that for some people, they want a place to post their longer meta without having to split it over 2-3 LJ posts.

Huh, it hasn't been happening in any of the fandoms that I follow on AO3, I think.

I'm actually not against to the idea as long as it's something that can be easily filtered out. Which it can't right now, I suppose, because the filtering isn't working at the moment.

Yeah, it might be better if we could actually filter at the moment. It seems like it's happening more and more in Sherlock fandom. Le sigh.

That's... odd.

But possibly still not as odd as the fact that earlier this week someone posted their Jon Snow fanmix in the ASOiaF section. Why would you post a fanmix to AO3?

Blegh.

Maybe they should have a separate section for fandom essays.

I'd be annoyed if a fanmix turned up. It's not the place for it! I swear it's the influx of ff.net lately.

SO ANNOYING. BAH.

I am unclear on how talking about Benedict Cumberbatch's level of attractiveness is meta. HAVE I BEEN WRITING MORE META THAN I REALIZED.

YOU COULD POST YOUR THOUGHTS ON AO3!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2012-07-16 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm imagining this "meta" is just Tumblr-style hyperbole and faux-rage like WHAT GAVE YOU THE RIGHT? NO, FUCK YOU. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. YOU'RE THE WORST. THIS IS ILLEGAL. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? I HATE YOU SO MUCH. FAAAAAAAAAAAAACE

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
XD XD XD XD XD

Yeah, I really hope AO3 doesn't become the next blog replacement.

I don't really see the use in posting meta there because meta to me invites discussion and I don't see how AO3 would be the place for it. I guess you could say the same about meta on Tumblr, btu I do kind of feel that way about meta on Tumblr anyway lol.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, neither are good for discussion, but AO3 especially.

Well...actually AO3 is probably a whole lot easier to hold discussions, but I still don't want it to become a forum.
