Down the rabbit hole...

I said I wasn't going to play TPTB's game. I believe even the phrase "kiss my ass" was involved. But here I am. *sigh* I'm *sure* this has been discussed elsewhere, but I'm still living in my own little world.

Somehow I totally spaced on the fact that the end of Torchwood *wasn't* the first time that "Bad Wolf" and Torchwood had met. Which was a "duh" moment for me since I'd been cackling at the [livejournal.com profile] elismor DT letter at the time, which was *because* Bad Wolf had popped up before.

"Now when it comes to the Doctor's companion, the Torchwood files are strangely lacking. It seems the evidence has been corrupted, something called 'Bad Wolf' virus. At least we've got these photographs." ~ Love & Monsters

That's always bugged the crap out of me. A theory was floated that maybe it actually had been the Doctor who corrupted the files, and simply used "Bad Wolf" as a name for the hell of it. If this virus was done by him prior to Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, why only destroy info about Rose? Why not also about himself? I'm thinking he wouldn't exactly be pleased about someone collecting info on him. And after Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, why destroy info about Rose at all? What would be his motivation? If Torchwood *was* writing his supposed "complete history*," wouldn't he want Rose to have a mention? All kidding aside, he'd probably even want Jackie to have a mention.

Hmm. Was this virus ever mentioned in the Torchwood series?

But combine this with the Bad Wolf graffiti behind Jack, and it's looking more and more like BadWolf!Rose got up to something - something beyond what happened on the game station in The Parting of the Ways, and it involves Jack. What exactly this something is, remains to be seen. And why exactly BadWolf!Rose felt the need to erase Rose's information...I'm at a loss at the moment.

[insert standard plea for no BP guest spots - permanent return or nothing]

* Yeah, I know. The writing a complete history thing was pretty much a joke. But it was obvious that Torchwood knew about the Doctor and the Doctor didn't seem all that irked at that point.

Hold me, Old Who. You who felt no need to plant clues for 3 series, leading up to the fact that the Brigadier was a giant hamster.

But this isn't crazy! Is it? I'm not talking about D/R!!! *FLAILS*

[identity profile] elismor.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)

I'm not talking about D/R!!!

It is only a matter of time before you start to draw little pink hearts around their names.

Have you seen my icon? Have you?

And you should be *thanking* me. My last crazy filter ramble involved...SEX. And not the "Four has been mpreged" kind either. Mwah.

I don't remember that!

It's ten minutes until I can leave work, and sweet God, all I want to do is draw pink hearts around "Doctor + Rose" for you.

leading up to the fact that the Brigadier was a giant hamster.

But it explains so much!!!

Doesn't it??

I always figured that the virus that Mickey was given by Nine to erase all of the traces of him at the end of Aliens of London was the Torchwood/BadWolf virus that the Love in Monsters episode brought up. I don't think that Ten would want to erase Rose, but Nine wanted to protect Rose from other internet scavengers.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember someone bringing that up before. But the only problem is, that in Love & Monsters, they seemed to have really no problem getting info about the Doctor from Torchwood. It was only Rose that had been affected. So, I'm thinking that either the virus given to Mickey went *completely* sideways, or this Bad Wolf Virus and what Mickey got were two separate things.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, had to double-check just to make sure I wasn't going mad. But yeah, Rose was the only one affected.

Do we know for 100% sure that Bad Wolf means Rose? Because it could also be places where the Doctor has been or places that he is going....could it not? And it just so happened that the first few times we saw it, he was with Rose? I always took it more a way of tracking his movements or predicting where he might show up. Or...something.

Then again, I clearly have not given this as much thought as you have. ;P

I'm not following. In TPotW, Rose said, "I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words... I scatter them in time and space. A message to lead myself here."

Just from that, it seemed specifically related to Rose. It was for the purpose of eventually leading Rose back to the game station.

Then again, I clearly have not given this as much thought as you have. ;P

No one has! I WIN!! ;)

Yeah...I always thought that was Time talking. Because the Bad Wolf is always there before Rose gets there, isn't it?

Time travel always gives me a headache...

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh heh. Well, if you want to call it Time - it was Rose when she was possessed by the Time Vortex. I call that BadWolf!Rose. She/it scattered the words into her past travels with the Doctor, so Rose would see them when they showed up. (Only a byproduct that the Doctor noticed it as well.)

And it would *seem* that scattering the words into Rose's past wasn't the only thing she did - she hit Jack in Torchwood for some odd reason. Now, TPTB *could* have made us loopy by later claiming that where Jack was walking, the Doctor and Rose had been as well - we just never saw it. But that seems convoluted, even for them. And combine Jack's Bad Wolf with the Bad Wolf Virus, and something seems fishy.

See, that's what made me think it's the Doctor-o-meter. You see the words and he appears. Like the time traveling equivalent of Bloody Mary.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I gotcha. Well, if it was a Doctor-o-meter, you'd think we would have still seen Bad Wolf everywhere during S2...

Okay....Doctor/End of the World-o-meter.

EEK! Jackie's gonna get pregnant again, isn't she?!

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Just thought of this. No, I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of DW at my fingertips...yet.

Bad Wolf appeared in TPotW when only Rose was there. After the Doctor sent her home. Showed up when she was in the restaurant with her mum and Mickey, and also with the big words on the blacktop and surrounding areas.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, why it would show up for just Jack makes NO sense. At all. None. Dammit, we're gonna get a giant hamster at the end of S3, aren't we?

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Rather like how erasing Rose's info makes NO sense...

THE GIANT HAMSTER DID IT!

*goes mad*

[identity profile] grimorie.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... this is my personal canon here but I think Bad Wolf is far from finished with Rose. It followed her to the Parallel Earth and the Bad Wolf protected by erasing any pertinent evidence about her.

I could be jossed at any moment and would turn out that Jack will become the Bad Wolf but I choose to think that Bad Wolf is far, far from finished with Rose.

Although, I'm a Bad Wolf enthusiast so, er, I might be biased.

[identity profile] mrv3000.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
In all actuality, I would love this to be the case - that all this Bad Wolf stuff would bring Rose back into the picture. But I'm afraid of a couple of things. 1) That Rose does come back, but it's only for an episode or two and so you have the Doctor and Rose reliving the pain of Doomsday for a second time. or 2) That the whole Bad Wolf thing may indirectly have something to do with Rose, but nothing will actually come of it, in which case I'll just set myself up for a fall by hoping it will be something.

Basically, the whole Bad Wolf thing has me doing some hand-wringing. :D
