Okay, this episode was one big info dump. For my own sake I had to break it down. I think this is right.
Oh, and there's some Cylon named Daniel we've never seen. (At least, I don't think we've ever seen a Daniel.)
Also, Mr. PC was the brain surgeon. HA!!
And one more thing, I love Ellen like this! At first I was like, "um, Ellen is the final Cylon?" But seeing her now, it completely fits.
- The 13th tribe broke away and went to Earth. On Earth they created their own Cylons and went through the whole war thing, destroying each other.
- However, 5 humanoid Cylons ("the final five") managed to get away from Earth and headed back to the 12 colonies.
- The final five were more advanced in that the Cylons on Earth could reproduce. They also had regeneration technology.
- The final five were less advanced in that they didn't have jump drives and it took them forever to get back to the 12 colonies.
- The final five were more advanced in that the Cylons on Earth could reproduce. They also had regeneration technology.
- When the 5 returned, they found the centurions going through the same conflict with the Humans that had happened on Earth.
- To get the centurions to stop fighting, the 5 promised them regeneration technology and also created human models (Cavil, Leoben, D'Anna, Six, Boomer). This is why the Cylons suddenly disappeared after the original war.
- The 5 hoped that if they gave these Cylons free will, the ability to love and have human emotions, that the cycle of destruction by the Cylons would end.
- Cavil went a bit nuts, not particularly liking the fact that he was made of meat, and killed the 5.
- When the 5 resurrected, Cavil blocked their memories and then shipped them off to live with the Humans.
- But now that their resurrection ship has been destroyed, Cavil's desperate to get that technology back. Ellen is saying she needs the other of the 5 to do something like that - no idea if it's a lie or the truth.

It was pretty cool seeing her real personality. Her being the final Cylon--her whole arc on the show thus far, really--makes so much more sense now. Ellen actually seemed pretty awesome.
I'm not sure if we ever will see Daniel/Seven. The way they were talking, Cavil had destroyed all the copies of that model.

That could be. Or it'll be this giant shocker, like...he was Lee's grandfather or something. :D

Uh huh!
I think it's fascinating to see her real personality, to see that she, like Tigh, is all about accepting responsibility for who you are and what you do and going on from that.
Do you think we've seen the other 4's real personalities yet? Ellen is quite a bit different from her Human personality (which happened once she realized who she was - a 180 in the tank there). I'm curious about the others.
She and Tigh fit the parent role for the other models pretty well and I dunno, I just think it very much makes sense, the reveal that Cavil is the son who's massively pissed off at Mom and Dad and has been causing 95% of the problems out there, just because he won't accept who he is.
I loved that little twist. They wrote and the actor played Cavil really well in this episode - you kept getting the impression of him being this emo teen without actually blatantly doing "emo teen."
And Daniel is totally Starbuck's dad.
OMG. That's gotta be it! That would make so much sense then! Including Starbuck's artistic tendencies! I would totally lay money on this idea right now.

I don't know, but it's a very good question. It seems like Cavil deliberately really screwed with Ellen, because he resents her so much. The others certainly don't have the memories they should have, but I'm not sure whether they will eventually undergo such a dramatic personality change.

Yup. He was just so angry and refusing to take any responsibility at all for who he is. The Sixes prove all the time that none of the humlons have to be any particular way, regardless of how they were created. They make their own choices and are their own people, as is Athena and hopefully now, Boomer as well.
Daniel as Starbuck's dad would make a LOT of sense. It explains her miraculous resurrection and her special destiny-ness.

Hadn't occurred to me but that would make so much sense!!

OMG. I knew he looked familiar but I just couldn't place him.

But did they create Cylons or were they Cylons to begin with?
My brain hurts.

Finally Up To Date on BSG
I'm not sure if you've got the information completely right, but I'm still a bit confused about the 13th Tribe and whether they were Cylons or what.
I'm really confused as to how Ellen named/made "John" after her father when she's a Cylon. I know the Final Five are different, but it's weird. I'm leaning more toward the "Humans and Cylons are really the same" thing as an ending. Or maybe they once lived in harmony? I don't know.
Also, I'm totally going with the "Daniel is Starbuck's daddy" theory. I don't think they'd make up a whole 'nother Cylon just to show off what a dick John/Cavil is. We already knew that.

I...had to use Wiki for the names. :D

I don't think they were. It sounded to me like the 13th Tribe had created more Cylons, and that's why Earth was in ruins - they got into another Human vs. Cylon war.

Well Ellen said that Cylons on Earth had the ability to reproduce. So she could have had a father.

I'm really curious what they've come up with. Only about 5 more episodes left.

If it ends up with Rocks Fall Everybody Dies, I will be sad. Of course that was sort of the premise of the series. "Nukes Fall, Almost Everybody Dies".
You know, I've thought about graphing my feelings toward all of the characters on BSG over time, but some of those would zig and zag more than . . . a really zig-zaggy thing.
Re: Finally Up To Date on BSG
I've pretty much given up on all of them. :D

It probably wouldn't surprise me if it is.
