[livejournal.com profile] katesutton asks what I've been sort of curious about for a while now. Does a female character displaying emotions equal weak? Or if a female character is with a man, is she weak? (Why is a man never seen as weak if he's with a woman?) The above can be true sometimes, sure. But is the default answer always "Yes?"

Looks like spoilers for the latest episode of House, and S2 of Doctor Who over there.

I sometimes wonder (I wonder about a lot of things, really) if that good female characters are rare and so we tend to be harsher and more critical of them? Since they have to sorta represent this idealistic image of "Woman?" I mean, things in my life have brought me to tears and I've gotten emotional at times, but I consider myself to be a fairly strong, independent person. My emotional side is just part of who I am - it makes up this whole. I'm glad I have this side since I actually care about things. Maybe I'm not the Ideal Woman.

All of this is really pondering, though. *ponders*
