I meant to do this the other day after I watched Iron Man and Indiana Jones: comment on all the previews I saw for the summer movies.
The Incredible Hulk
You Don't Mess with the Zohan
The Happening
Get Smart
The Love Guru
Wall-E
Hancock
Hellboy II
The Dark Knight
The Mummy
I didn't see a preview for it, but just felt the need to mention that I WILL be seeing the X-Files movie. \o/
And also in the Coming Soon department, new Futurama DVD June 24!!
The Incredible Hulk
- No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
No.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan
- It might be funny, and it also might be a single joke. I'd probably be more tempted to see it if it was a Cohen Brother's flick. (Secret confession - I laughed so hard I cried during There's Something About Mary.)
The Happening
- *is still traumatized from watching the Sixth Sense in the theater* I'll satisfy my curiousity about his twist-of-the-day by reading spoilers.
Get Smart
- I want to want to see this movie, but the trailer looked really dumb. I've got a bad feeling about this, Sparky. If the reviews are bad, I definitely won't see it.
The Love Guru
- I'm not sure why Mike Myers didn't just make another Austin Powers movie, because this is exactly what this is. Very big PASS.
Wall-E
- Awwwww. I hope it's good. I wanna see it.
Hancock
- Looks like a blast, and Will Smith is always a draw for me. I'll see it.
Hellboy II
- Okay, what? I had no idea there was a Hellboy I. Nor do I think I care.
The Dark Knight
- Hmm. This is a maybe for me. I love giving Christopher Nolan kudos for just about anything. I'm sure he walks the dog masterfully. But the superhero thing just never excites me on its own.
The Mummy
- Eh, I'll probably see it. Looks like some brainless fun. I'm not expecting the charm of the first 2 movies though, considering Evie's been actor-replaced. (They really couldn't find a British actor? Erg, she's going to attempt the fake accent, isn't she?) But, you know, Brendan Fraser. So yay! And also Michelle Yeoh who I've had a girlcrush on ever since Crouching Tiger.

Whee, X-Files! :D
Oooh, what's the new Futurama going to be about?
no subject
I didn't even think about that. Oh man, now I've got Guttenberg and Sheedy flashbacks...
Whee, X-Files! :D
Hooray!! And it's a stand-alone! HOORAY!!

The new Futurama thing is here, and they've got a bit of a synopsis on it.

Also, I have nothing against Maria Bello. But if there were so desperate to make another Mummy, I think I'd have prefered them to kill Evie off...
no subject
Let me guess - it's all a dream? :D

Or...left her at home? Maybe she's on some kind of lecture tour? I suppose *maybe* it'll be just as good, but actor chemistry is hard to replace. (I'm *still* impressed they pulled it off with the switch between CE and DT when it came to interacting with BP. It was a different-looking chemistry, but still very much sparks. And I mean that in a non-romantic way.)

But then I think that comes down to the talent of the actor. It'd be pretty impossible not to have chemistry with any of those three. Dammit, why can't we have a scene with them all in? *stamps foot*

But first, I must see Indy because... oh let's be serious, it's Harrison Ford; I don't need to explain do I? *g*
no subject
And Indy was fun. You've totally got to switch off your brain - even more than the other films - but still fun.
no subject
That shouldn't be a problem. Erm... that sounds kind of bad for me, doesn't it? *g*

I know. :( I kinda have the feeling I won't be buying the DVD of this one, even though I've got the 2 DVD editions for both of the other movies. I really should watch those again.
Also, the preview for the Love Guru caused some of the most painful moments of my life. WHY? Do people actually LIKE THIS?!
I have NO idea. It's like they took all the jokes that got left out of the Austin Powers movies and turned it into its own movie.
Maybe it's like a Three Stooges thing.
Me: This is NOT funny.
50% of guys: They're classics! You have no taste!
Me: o_O

You get that, too? I do not understand the love for the Stooges. Or, like, 90% of the "comedy" movies out there. But then I tend to prefer subtle, witty, non-bathroom, non-humiliation humor, which leaves out a bunch.
no subject
Also totally agree on the Love Guru horror. Blech.

I'll wait for Hancock and Get Smart on DVD only because I don't see the point in watching comedies in the theater anymore.
The Happening looks good but I think M. Night Shyamalan might have gone to the well a few too many times. I've been disappointed in his last few films and so I'll wait for the DVDs. Nothing has compared to The Sixth Sense.
Hellboy is okay but I watched it on DVD. I wouldn't pay to see the sequel in the theater.
I'll be at the theaters the day The X-files opens.
no subject
Oh right! I forgot about that.
and Two: I enjoyed Batman Begins in an 'entertainment value' way.
It's weird. For reasons I can't remember, I never saw the end of that movie.

It really does seem like he's only got one trick up his sleeve. It's kind of like Kevin Costner - at first everyone thought he was brilliant, but when he did more movies people realized that he doesn't actually act, he says lines.
I'll be at the theaters the day The X-files opens.
I might be too. :D

Zohan: I want to hate it -- and will definitely not see it in the theatre, as I almost NEVER do with comedy, because I can't turn it off if it becomes evident after 20 minutes that it's not in fact funny. But I confess to being intrigued after reading this.
The Happening: Damn. I was more interested in it before I knew it was his. Although I liked The Village independently of the twist, so I still have hope.
Get Smart: Looks like they did an amazing job capturing the TV show, actually. Which means there's no way in hell I can sit through an hour and a half of it.
Wall-E: Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee! That is all.
Hancock: I was skeptical until it got to the press conference, where he's reading (and not particularly convincingly) the statement about how "you deserve better" than the kind of hero he is, without even looking up from the lectern. Something about that grabbed me.
Hellboy II: WHY AREN'T LIZ'S FLAMES BLUE??? I was too distracted by that to notice much else. (As you can probably tell from this, I'm quite fond of the first one, though I've never read the comics.)
Dark Knight: I'm a dork and just keep looking for myself in the parade scenes. And recognizing locations, which I didn't know the Loop well enough to do last time.
Mummy: I'll see it, but I probably won't be happy. Still, as you say, Michelle Yeoh, whom I've had a girlcrush on since she out-Bonded Bond. *happy sigh* Lowered expectations FTW!
no subject
Huh. Didn't know it had a political angle to it. That *could* be interesting.
Hancock: I was skeptical until it got to the press conference, where he's reading (and not particularly convincingly) the statement about how "you deserve better" than the kind of hero he is, without even looking up from the lectern. Something about that grabbed me.
Hmm. Interesting. I'll admit, that part of it is really what appealed to me - a superhero that's not just angsty like Spider Man, but someone who really you don't want saving you. :D
Hellboy II: WHY AREN'T LIZ'S FLAMES BLUE???
*snickers*
Dark Knight: I'm a dork and just keep looking for myself in the parade scenes.
And you WILL point it out if you're visible, right? You know, I'd probably pay to see that movie just for that. :)
Mummy: I'll see it, but I probably won't be happy. Still, as you say, Michelle Yeoh, whom I've had a girlcrush on since she out-Bonded Bond. *happy sigh* Lowered expectations FTW!
*sighs* I'll be a "lie back and think of Mummy I/II" thing, most likely. And she was in a Bond movie? Not that I've seen very many Bond movies. There's just something deeply cool about her.

Yup. The... second(?) Brosnan one. The one with Jonathan Pryce and (briefly) Teri Hatcher. :: checks IMDb :: Tomorrow Never Dies. It's not particularly good, but she's awesome.

WE ALREADY MADE THIS MOVIE. No, the inclusion of Liv Tyler is not making it better (I love Liv Tyler. But I love Sarah Connelly and Ang Lee as well). Marvel, plz to be focusing on your other properties.
(Secret confession - I laughed so hard I cried during There's Something About Mary.)
ZOMG! *defriends* (Actually, I sort of like Me, Myself & Irene, so I have no ground to stand on.) I laughed during this preview, but all my instincts tell me Don't Mess With the Zohan will be awful.
The Happening
The twist is hilarious. Sometimes I feel really bad for Shyamalan. Either he makes a movie with a twist, which is expected of him now, and everyone goes "Not as good as the first!" or he makes a movie without a twist ending and everyone goes "Where's the twist?!" Poor guy can't win anymore.
The Love Guru
Yeah. BLEGH. (What gets me is that there are two Daily Show alums in this movie. WHHHHY?)
Hellboy II
Heh. I skipped the first one, and later saw it on DVD, but the trailer for the second actually got me a little excited. I haven't read Hellboy yet, which will also make it much easier to enjoy, I'm sure.
The Dark Knight
I'm a huge comic book fan, and I love Chris Nolan's interpretation of Batman. So I'm definitely going to see this. It makes my geeky heart go pitter-pat. (And I just want him to get to the movie where he introduces Batgirl. That's what I'm really waiting for.)
The Mummy
I haven't seen the trail for this, but yes! Brendan Fraser! Hooray! But replacing Rachel Weisz is bad! But Michelle Yeoh is good! I'm so conflicted.

We all have our secret shames.
The twist is hilarious.
Okay, I really must find this spoiler.
and I love Chris Nolan's interpretation of Batman.
I really should watch the whole thing sometime. I missed the ending, and just haven't thought about it to try and watch it.

*nods* I'll probably still see it though. If I remember right, it's one of the last of the summer movies. I'll probably be ready for something in the theater again by then.

Whenever I see Mike Myers, I want to stab someone. Preferably him. *hates*
I'm bouncily looking forward to Dark Knight -- I'm definitely a fan of superhero movies, and Batman Begins was one of the very best. I'm hoping they raised the bar even higher this time.
The Happening -- twist aside, couldn't he have come up with a better title? Or better previews? "Something is happening!" Um, that describes most movies, guy. Especially most action/thriller movies. Just sayin.
I don't think I'll go see the new Mummy movie. It just won't be the same.
no subject
Oh really? HUH.
Whenever I see Mike Myers, I want to stab someone. Preferably him. *hates*
HA! I remember liking Wayne's World and the first Austin Powers movie. LIKE, not love. Oh, and I liked So I Married An Axe Murderer due to it being bizarre. But he's definitely not high on my like list as an actor.
The Happening -- twist aside, couldn't he have come up with a better title?
Mwah.
I don't think I'll go see the new Mummy movie. It just won't be the same.
It really won't. And it's not even the same mummy.

Batman looks HARDCORE!
The first Hellboy movie was a lot of fun, and I'm excited for the next one.
no subject
I didn't even care about it to begin with. :D
Batman looks HARDCORE!
It really does - very dark and twisted.
The first Hellboy movie was a lot of fun, and I'm excited for the next one.
Maybe if I was into the series, it'd appeal to me.

Get Smart - It looks...amusing, surprisingly enough. Which is something, given I've never seen the show and that I usually cannot watch Steve Carrell for more than about 10 minutes.
Wall-e - *flail* So cute! Want!
Hancock - The first previews looked totally uninteresting to me, but this last one kind of intrigued me. So I might see it if reviews are good.
Hellnoy II - I never saw the first, but the second looks really interesting to me. Maybe I'll go with one of my comic-book-geek friends and they can explain things.
Dark Knight - I have a feeling people will be making me go to this, whether I like it or not.
Mummy - Hm. Well, I want to see it because, hey, Brendan Fraser as Rick and Michelle Yeoh. Everyone has mixed feelings about hte new Evie, but I'm going to look on the bright side and hope that maybe she isn't so bad. I'll probably see it for the reasons I liked Indy: good mindless fun.
Michelle: turning the five-second preview review into a refined art.

He's been growing on me a BIT lately. I've caught a couple of the latest episodes of The Office.
Dark Knight - I have a feeling people will be making me go to this, whether I like it or not.
*pats you*

She could be all right. I'm not really expecting much though. Just hoping she doesn't suck. :D

Yeah, see, he's not funny to me at all in that show (blasphemy, I know). But the preview for the movie looked slightly amusing, mainly because of the presence of Anne Hathaway as the straight-(wo)man.
Just hoping she doesn't suck. :D
So say we all.

I'm so bloody excited for this movie because it looks adorable and I love Wall-E. But of course whenever you say it, you have to do it like he says it: Woo-aaaallieeeeee.
Hancock
It's funny, I love Will Smith and I love super hero movies, but when I first saw the previews for this, I thought it was going to be stupid and I had no interest in seeing it. But I've found that the more previews I've seen for it, the better it looks. Specially 'cause he gets an awesome super hero suit.
Hellboy II
I didn't see the first one, it didn't appeal to me at all back when it came out, but I think my tastes are growing and the previeiw for this one actually going, "... huh... that actually could be good...." Also, it's directed by Guillermo del Toro, who I worship after seeing Pan's Labyrinth. So I'm going to go see it.
The Dark Knight
Dun nuh Nuh nuh Dun nuh Nuh nuh BATMAN! Again on the me loving super hero movies, the Batman movies, even before Christopher Nolan started doing the remakes, have always been my favorites. Besides, I have soft spot for them because the first one was released the year I was born. (My college made a big deal out of this during our introducktion weekend. Yes there's a "k" in that; we're the Ducks ;D) So liking the Batman movies is written into my genetic code.
And besides. Christian Bale. And Heath Ledger (rest his soul). This movie's gonna be full of eye candy frames.
The Mummy
Anne and I are really excited for this movie. We love love love Brendan Fraiser, and I love action movies. Ok, really, I just love movies, but the Mummy movies have also always been favorites because I love mythology. More the Greek and Roman stuff, but the Egyptian stuff too. So yay for Egyptology and hot guys wielding guns in the 1950's. I also love period pieces.
So I'll probably see just about every movie that comes out this summer. What can I say? I love movies. Plus, it'll be my first full summer in Arizona, so I'm going to hide in those cool, dark, air-conditioned theaters as often as I can possibly get away with.

I know! So cute!

The Tim Burton one? Okay, I saw that in the theater. Which makes me just slightly older... :D
Ok, really, I just love movies, but the Mummy movies have also always been favorites because I love mythology.
I do too. It's what appeals to me about Indiana Jones (well, it's not the only thing), and National Treasure. Adventures built around investigating myths.

Oh yeah. No kidding.

One and the same. Sorry about that. XD
Adventures built around investigating myths.
Hellz yes. It's one of the reasons I'm so fascinated with Disney history, because there's all these little stories all over the place. *loves*

Zohan -
is that the other Adam Sandler movie this summer? Yeah, I'm not interested in either one, so.This just proves I don't watch much comedy. I just confused Adam Sandler with Ben Stiller (Ben's movie being Tropic Thunder). However, I'm still not interested. The Happening - I don't do horror, so that lets this one out.
Get Smart - Eh. Might be OK, if only to see the Rock doing humor. But I won't be going to the theater for it. DVD rental all the way, baby.
The Love Guru - *shudder* Oh, spare me.
Wall-E - I love the trailer, and it looks seriously adorable. I want to see it in theater.
Hancock - looks interesting. Will wait to see what people say about it.
Hellboy II - probably will see it, but maybe not until out on DVD. Did see the first one; it was OK.
The Dark Knight - Of course I'm going. I love comics; I love Batman, I love Christian Bale, and as someone else said, Heath Ledger's last movie.
The Mummy - Not sure. Loved the first one lots and the 2nd pretty well, and a good proportion of that was Evie as played by Rachel Weisz. Without her, I'm just not feeling as interested. However, seeing the trailer in the theater perked my interest some.
The X-files - *snort* Of course I'm seeing it. Damn you, Chris Carter!
no subject
Pretty much my way of thinking.

I noticed they barely showed her at all in the trailer. At least the one I saw. You never heard her speak, and she was always in the background. Probably trying to mask the fact that it is a different actress.
