Yeesh. Glad they caught those people in London. Woke up to NPR talking about red terror alerts and it was like, what what? :(

And in other news, Doctor Who keeps going to hell in a handbasket. They just *really* do not want me to watch S3 at all, don't they? They're doing a very good job.

new spoilers for S3 )

Spent the morning talking [livejournal.com profile] elismor's ear off about the fic. She spent much of it gagging from the cute. She's now got a cameo in the fic (just look for puka shells) but is also demanding an actual line as a reward. heh heh.

Also we discussed fic and AU. My latest flailing was not because I somehow think that my fic will be canon. I'm not, you know, *actually* delusional. And I do know that all fic is AU by its very nature.

But to me there are different levels of AU in fic. I've always been a total canon whore. *Loved* writing "in canon" so that basically you could read my fics and easily see them between episodes or something. Even with my SG-1 fic "Once in a Lifetime" which involved a 2010-type plot, I was so deep in denial that it was actually "AU." Because to me, AU implies a complete deviation off the canon path. Oh, the fic totally was AU, but I couldn't admit it until about a year later. :D But the rest of my fics usually glommed onto canon like glue.

The Monster Fic *is* completely and utterly AU though. It is a complete deviation from the canon path. Which is so completely new for me. But yet there's so much in there that's drawn from/woven through S1/S2, that when I see some sort of canon for S3 that's not in my fic, I flail. LOUDLY. Whoopsie.

ETA: Very minor S3 spoiler involving clothing )

  1. Wank at T&C over Martha. Yeah, this is why I'm no longer a member. (Although haven't decided if I should post a fic link there yet. Hmmm.) And no, I didn't actually go there because I refuse to. But seriously, why exactly is Martha evil? Clearly this is what happens when you don't go to all the D/R meetings.

  2. The icon the poster used at f_w was one I made! *gets all proud*

Okay, here we go. I am looking for British-type people to British-proof my fic. I'm not really looking for a beta - I'll get that through other sources and later. All you would need to do is look for words and phrases in my fic that are completely wrong in the British lexicon.

I will not lie. This thing is huge. I'm at 22,000 words now. Which is why I'm thinking maybe more than one person could do it? Maybe? Unless someone *wanted* to do the whole thing. See, I've got sections completed and I'm ready to ship off parts to get British-ized. The sections usually run around 1,000 - 1,500 words and I *will* ship them off out of order - don't plan on having it make much sense since you'll probably have no context.

Again, you would *not* have to check for grammar, characterization, etc. (unless you just can't help yourself) as I'll go through final editing and beta round later. But you do not have to be afraid to tell me anything and everything that's wrong in relation to its Britishness - phrases, wording, etc. I am used to *brutal* betas (and I love them for it) and you cannot hurt my feelings.

The fandom's Doctor Who and it's Doctor/Rose. Totally PG for language. (Sorry, kids. No smut in this one.) Post Doomsday with spoilers for just about everything in S1 and S2.

And now I will go to bed out of fear. Even though currently all British-type people are happily snoozing.
